Job Summary:

The College Counselor supports students and families through the college search and application process, providing individualized guidance and helping students identify colleges that align with their academic, personal, and career goals. The ideal candidate is collaborative, detail-oriented, and student-centered, with strong knowledge of the evolving college admissions landscape.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-on-one and group counseling to students and families throughout the college admissions process, including course selection, standardized testing, essay development, and interview preparation.
  • Assist students in developing balanced and thoughtful college lists that align with their interests, strengths, and goals.
  • Guide students through all aspects of the college application process, including timelines, application platforms, and required materials
  • Support the Director of College Counseling in implementing the school’s comprehensive college counseling program.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with college and university admissions representatives.
  • Help coordinate college counseling programming, including college fairs, information sessions, and visits from college admissions representatives.
  • Educate students and families about the college admissions process, including financial aid and scholarship opportunities.
  • Write individualized and supportive letters of recommendation for students.
  • Maintain accurate student records and utilize college counseling technology platforms to track applications and outcomes.
  • Stay informed about trends and developments in college admissions.
  • Collaborate with faculty and school leadership to support students’ academic and extracurricular development as it relates to postsecondary planning.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications Sought:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in counseling, education, or a related field preferred.
  • 3–5 years of experience in college counseling, college admissions, or a related field preferred.
  • Knowledge of the college admissions process and trends in higher education.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to build trusting relationships with students, families, faculty, and college representatives.
  • Commitment to supporting students from diverse backgrounds and aspirations.
