The Director of Innovative Processing leads the technical and operational processing of all undergraduate applications to UT Austin. As a key decision-maker within the Office of Admissions, the Director manages large-scale systems operations, quality control, and data accuracy across all platforms. Supervising a team of 20 full-time and 10–12 part-time staff—including three Associate Directors—the Director ensures timely, compliant, and efficient application processing and contributes to strategic planning, system development, and policy alignment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the strategic direction and daily operations of undergraduate application processing, ensuring that application systems (Slate, mainframe, and others) function accurately and in accordance with established policies and enrollment goals.
  • Supervise and support a processing team of approximately 20 full-time and 10–12 part-time staff, including three direct reports at the Associate Director level who oversee Freshman and International Processing, Data Support and Systems Accuracy, Transfer and Athletic Processing.
  • Serve as a key decision-maker in the Office of Admissions, contributing to policy development, procedural refinement, and strategic planning across application processing, data management, and enrollment services.
  • Ensure the accurate receipt, storage, and presentation of application data by managing the technical flow of information into Slate, the mainframe, and other institutional systems. Participate in systems testing and implementation efforts.
  • Oversee quality control processes to ensure the timely and accurate posting of admission decisions, including final decisions authorized by senior leadership.
  • Direct the technical processing of all undergraduate application types, including FTIC, transfer, re-entry, transient, and Honors applications. Coordinate with campus stakeholders to ensure appropriate data routing and compliance with policies.
  • Collaborate with communications and recruitment teams to ensure all published admissions information accurately reflects application procedures, deadlines, credential requirements, and appeals processes.
  • Monitor application cycle progress and processing timelines using enrollment analytics and CRM tools. Provide timely updates to the AVP of Admissions and other senior leaders.
  • Ensure systems compliance and operational integrity, staying current on policy changes, technical updates, and best practices in application management. Lead cross-functional troubleshooting efforts as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree from regionally accredited institution. 5-10 years of admission processing and operations experience. 2-3 years of increasing responsibility in higher education administration. Demonstrated experience with a CRM, OCR business applications, Microsoft Office products. Experience working with both domestic and international documents and related processes. Demonstrated success in collaborating with others in a team environment. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple overlapping projects, and to work independently. Demonstrated excellent written and verbal interpersonal communication skills and professional demeanor. Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced work environment under the pressure of deadlines. 

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.  
 

Preferred Qualifications 

Master’s Degree or higher. More than the required years of experience. Extensive experience with Slate report and query builder. Experience using Cognos. Experience onboarding the Common Application and/or Apply Texas. Extensive familiarity with academic programs and admissions processes and procedures at schools with applicant pools exceeding 100K+.
