JOB SUMMARY

The College Success Coordinator plays a critical supporting role in fostering a college-going culture and assisting students and their families through the complex college application and matriculation journey. Working closely under the guidance of the College Success Advisor, the Coordinator will help implement programs, facilitate workshops, and provide direct support to students to ensure they successfully navigate the path to a "good-fit" college.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associate's degree in education, counseling, or a related field. Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • One (1) or more years of experience working with students in an educational setting, preferably with college-bound students.
  • Basic understanding of college admissions and financial aid processes.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to connect with students and families.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Commitment to YWPN's mission and a passion for empowering students.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • Two (2) or more years of experience working with college-bound students.
  • Familiarity with data management software (e.g., Excel, Naviance) or student information systems.
  • Proficiency in Spanish.
  • Experience coordinating events or workshops.

 

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Communication: Clear and effective verbal and written communication skills, capable of relaying information to students and parents.
  • Support: Ability to provide compassionate and practical support to students as they navigate college planning.
  • Organization and Planning: Strong ability to manage tasks, schedule appointments, and maintain accurate records.
  • Teamwork: Eagerness to work collaboratively with the College Success Advisor and other school staff to achieve shared goals.
  • Resourcefulness: Ability to assist in connecting students and families with appropriate resources.

 

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Cultivating a College-Bound Culture:

  • Assist the College Success Advisor in coordinating and setting up student workshops and parent orientations/meetings.
  • Help prepare materials and resources for college planning and admissions sessions.
  • Support efforts to engage parents and adult supporters in the college planning process.

Guiding Students Through College Admissions:

  • Provide administrative and logistical support for individual and group college advising sessions.
  • Remind students of upcoming deadlines for college applications, essays, and financial aid forms.
  • Assist in facilitating college admissions and financial aid workshops for students and parents.
  • Support students in their scholarship and award search processes, including organizing resources.

Collaborating for Student Success:

  • Help implement age-appropriate college programming throughout the grades (6th-12th) under the direction of the CSA.
  • Assist in coordinating college preparation experiences such as guest speakers, college fairs/visits, and SAT prep courses.
  • Support the College Success Advisor in maintaining external relationships to enhance college-bound opportunities.

Data-Driven Support and Advocacy:

  • Maintain accurate records of student progress, applications, acceptances, and scholarships under the guidance of the CSA.
  • Assist in tracking key student performance indicators related to college eligibility and readiness.
  • Help compile data for periodic reports on college access programming and student outcomes.

 

Ensuring Smooth Transitions:

  • Assist in supporting student enrollment with local colleges, as appropriate.
  • Help gather information on internship opportunities for students.

Reporting and Communication:

  • Assist the College Success Advisor with general administrative tasks related to college success initiatives.
  • Help prepare communications to students, families, and school staff regarding college-related information.
  • Support one-on-one college advisement sessions as needed, under direct supervision of the CSA.
  • Collaborate with school counselors to ensure college planning aligns with graduation requirements.
