Texas Lutheran University invites applications for the position of Associate Director for Graduate Admissions. The Associate Director for Graduate Admissions oversees all significant recruiting and enrollment functions related to graduate admissions, including the development of strategic partnerships with community and industry partners and four-year institutions. The associate director also serves the enrollment and admissions needs of the university partners, including faculty and program directors. Additionally, this includes but is not limited to evaluating, testing, and measuring the learning potential and academic achievement of prospective students and determining whether there is a good match between the student and the university. The associate director is also critical in the research, development and implementation of new programs and processes.
Position responsibilities include:
- Develop and implement all admissions and enrollment functions related to graduate programs.
- Evaluate credentials submitted by applicants - reviewing admission applications, transcripts, essays, evaluating test scores, and conducting interviews to determine a student’s potential for success at TLU.
- Make admission or denial recommendations based on a student’s academic credentials and other relevant factors. Such recommendations will be made with the goal of enhancing the academic standards and quality of the university and predicting the future success of the student.
- Develop and implement an individual recruitment and marketing plan focused on growing and retaining students in TLU’s graduate programs. The plan will include knowledge of institutions of higher education and plans for potential partnerships. This includes knowledge of college advisors, area alumni, clergy, and friends of TLU; competitors; and factors of influence.
- Attend and represent TLU at community meetings and business events that foster the development of partnerships and MOUs that lead to the growth of graduate programs.
- Proactively reaches out to business leaders and HR directors at regional businesses and industries to schedule meetings, information sessions, and other activities. Serves as primary point of contact for initiating and finalizing MOUs with companies and organizations.
- Travel within an assigned market territory. Represent the university at high schools, community colleges, college day and night programs, conferences, and other events as required.
- Plan and carry out recruitment events that will attract quality students to the university and inform the public about programs offered by the institution.
- Serve as guest speaker on higher education topics (e.g., the college search process, financial aid issues, scholarship services, etc.) for a variety of constituents, including but not limited to professional organizations, students, and parents.
- Serve as the primary university contact for assigned territory/cohort of students, counseling prospective students and parents regarding academic programs of study, program requirements, and scholarship programs.
- Ensure effective and timely communication with prospective students, parents, and other constituents.
- Investigate complaints or disputes on behalf of constituents and work with appropriate staff to resolve such issues. Significant matters may include, but are not limited to the following: financial aid, scholarship, or academic program issues; admission credentials and documents; campus living; etc.
- Participate in short range departmental planning by offering recommendations for departmental functions and goals.
- Anticipate and investigate competitive products, programs, and services and make recommendations that would enhance TLU’s competitive edge in the market.
- Participate in the development of university publications, student handbooks, etc., outlining academic services and university policies.
- Make large and small group presentations to prospective students regarding programs offered by TLU.
- Facilitate prospective student campus visits, small group programming and interviews.
- Coordinate special projects as assigned.
Position Qualifications include:
- Bachelor’s degree is required; Master’s degree is preferred
- At least five years of related (higher education, public relations, or marketing) experience is preferred.
- Excellent critical thinking skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Knowledge of computers and communication technology, to include MS Office and CRM Software (Slate)
- Excellent leadership and time management skills; must be a self-starter
- Considerable judgment is required to work independently and make decisions based on precedent and established policy
- Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality
